Citizens of Pacific Grove, California take dramatic action to save their famous Monarch Grove Butterfly Sanctuary. Disagreements about how best to protect this beautiful area are relevant to a global debate as citizens worldwide unite to fight habitat loss, due to climate change, deforestation and pesticides. The focus of this film is on habitat fragility, as we see positive change happen, one person, one community at a time.
The man whose work inspired the film Butterfly Town, USA, Robert Pacelli, has been devoting himself to restoring the Monarch Sanctuary habitat for more than 20 years. His resources include support donations from the community to buy and plant trees. He is a videographer and his work has been featured at museums throughout the world, including San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Laguna Gloria Museum at Austin, Texas and Project Artaud. Awards include Barcelona International Film Festival (First Prize), the Cine Top Award (The Eagle USA), Lilles International Film Festival (France), and the Hiroshima Film Festival. His work in the Monarch Sanctuary was honored by the City of Pacific Grove in 2011. Bob was also invited to present his work at an International Joint Monarch Conference in Minnesota, hosted by the University of Minnesota Monarch Lab.
